The Best New Cars to be Released in 2016

Best new cars in 2016

A fresh new year is here and so is a classy catalogue of new cars. The big automotive brands have upped their game for 2016 in a bid to get motorists to open their wallets, and we’re excited about some of their offerings.

From super SUVs to heavenly hatchbacks, if you’re ready to take the plunge and upgrade there’s something for all tastes. With so much to choose from, we can understand if you’re feeling slightly bewildered, but don’t worry we’ve created a list of our top new car releases in 2016 and when you can expect them to arrive.

Hyundai i20 Active

The last Frankfurt Motor Show was the stage for the rugged small 5-door hatchback. The stylish look of the concept piqued our interest as a beefed up version of the Hyundai i20 supermini. So what’s the main difference between its predecessors?  The previous model is a raised ride height, bigger side skirts and enlarged bumpers, while the newer model comes with the standard petrol and diesel engines, and more. This includes the economical, soon to be released, 1.0-litre turbocharged three-cylinder.

Release date: Early 2016

Audi A5

Lower, wider, lighter and more efficient than its predecessor. The A5 is shaping up to be better in every department than the A4. Its lower-powered 148bhp 2.0-litre TDI version engine emits less than 100g/km of CO2.  The A5 is set to be very aerodynamic, which will help to reduce wind noise. We’re particularly interested in the evolution of the already sportier looking A5 into a five-door Sportback.

Release date: September 2016

Price: £30,000 (est)

Dacia Duster

Affordability isn’t the only selling point of this smart looking French-Romanian SUV. It comes with a new potent 123bhp 1.2-litre turbo, whilst its soft suspension soaks up bumps and ensures a smooth ride.

Even though the Dacia Duster was released back in 2013, it only included left-hand drive for markets in Europe and had a few other niggling issues. The Duster has been spruced up for its 2016 launch and most notably is sporting a neater-looking front grille in shiny new chrome plating, that covers larger light clusters and an air intake.

To round off the new-look Duster there are also two new trims. Entry-level models will come with the slick Silcon black upholstery, while the higher-spec versions will come with Féderer subtle grey topstitching on black.

Release date: March 2016

Price: £9,000 (est)

Ford Edge

Designed to offer an affordable alternative to options such as the Audi Q5 and the BMW X3, the Ford Edge will pull up in the spring. What has got us really excited about the new Ford Edge is its noticeable space, with a roomy boot and five seats as standard. Based on the Mondeo, much of its dashboard and interior will look similar from the well-known model of car. Other features from the Mondeo include Active Noise Cancellation and inflatable seatbelts. There is a trim level for all those individuals who prefer the different Sport, Trend and Titanium looks.

Powering the spacious SUV is a choice of 2.0-litre TDCi diesel engines, at 188bhp or 207bhp. With the more powerful option available only with a six-speed gearbox.

Release date: Spring 2016

Price: £30,000 (est)

Fiat Tipo

Fiat will face fierce competition in a busy compact hatchback market, but their Tipo should more than hold its own as an excellent entry. The Tipo has a distinct executive look without an executive price tag and will launch as a practical spacious five-door estate.

We expect the Tipo to come with a range of engine options. If diesel is your thing there’s a 1.3 and 1.6-litre option, whilst petrol enthusiasts should be able to choose between 1.4 and 1.6-litre options.

Release date: September 2016

Price: £15,000 (est)
