Top new hatchbacks that you need to know about

2017 is set to be a great year for car releases in the UK, with many widely loved models undergoing redesigns to deliver an enhanced driving experience. We’ve been having a browse at what we should be expecting in the coming months and shortlisted the models that we think you really ought to keep an eye out for…

Seat Ibiza (June 2017)

It’s nearly time for Spanish car manufacturer, Seat, to reveal the 2017 take on their best-selling UK model – the Ibiza.

This time around, the Ibiza has undergone an entire restyle and is going to be larger than its predecessor – whilst maintaining its sporty, functional and overall youthful spirit.

Expected to be taking on a similar styling to its bigger sibling, Leon, the Ibiza will be slightly bigger and contain a plusher interior with comfort in mind.

Toyota Yaris (May 2017)

The Yaris is taking a new design approach for 2017. This model features new front and rear bumpers and mesh grille designs to give the car a more aggressive appearance.

Changes made to this model mean that there will be more interior trim and material options available as well as two-tone paintwork for a more personalised finish. A colour touchscreen infotainment system will also feature, adding overall appeal to a wider market.

The Yaris will also include Toyota’s Safety Sense package, which includes automatic emergency braking (AEB), lane departure warning and automatic high beam assistance. All great features for that added sense of security on the road.

Kia Picanto (May 2017)

This will be the 3rd generation of this city car, and the newest model promises sportier looks, more options and an infotainment system.

Expected to be innovative, bold and fun-looking, the Picanto will also benefit from the addition of some great equipment. These will include Apple Carplay and Android Auto, wireless phone charging and 3D sat nav mapping.

A rethink of the dimensions of its predecessor, the 2017 Picanto has been made slightly wider, allowing more space and comfort for rear passengers.

Skoda Citigo (May 2017)

This soon-to-be-revealed facelifted model is set to feature a whole new upgraded exterior including bumper modifications and a redesign of its prior radiator grille – alongside improvements to interior space.

In an attempt to jazz up the interior features, equipment upgrades have been made to the Swing media system to include colour display and Bluetooth connectivity.

This model will also see the introduction of the ‘kiwi’ bodywork colour and demonstrates an overall sleeker, cleaner design to the 2011 version.

Ford Fiesta (September 2017)

It’s hard to argue the fact that the Fiesta is one of the most popular and well-loved vehicles available in the UK. This is probably owing to the general consensus that the model sets the bar for fun driving in the supermini class.

However, whilst the Fiesta may not be easily rivalled for its driving experience, it has arguably struggled to compete with the infotainment systems and practicalities of models such as the Hyundai i20 or the Skoda Fabia.

Much focus has been placed on this for the development of the 2017 model, and we’re hoping to see advancements in the equipment and infotainment features upon its release.
